Welcome to Toews Piano's and Sewing. The Toews family has helped people buy quality sewing machines and pianos since 1950. We have been in business longer then any other family run company in Abbotsford.

Lawrence Toews is our in house piano technician with over 15 years experience. If your piano doesn't sound quite right, we make it sing once more. We specialize in quality new and used Yamaha pianos. Calvin Toews is a fully certified and experienced sewing service technician. If your sewing machine is running differently then its original state, we can help. With over 25 years of experience, Calvin Toews has seen it all.

The History Of Yamaha And Toews Music
We first started selling Yamaha pianos in the year 1968 In those days Yamaha was an unknown piano company We found that Canadians were very shy to try anything new in pianos As a result Mr. Leo Toews personally went to Yamaha Musical world headquarters in Hamamatsu City. He had some questions on how Yamaha Pianos were made.
Their in Japan he saw the future in the piano industry. Upon his return to Canada he readjusted Toews Music and went 100% exclusive into Yamaha brand of upright and Grand pianos. The next time Mr. Leo Toews went to the Yamaha factory in the city of Hamamatsu Japan it was in the year 1989 and Toews music was among the largest piano dealers in Canada.
Climate
Mr. Leo Toews learned on his first visit Japan's climate is identical to that of British Columbia. It ranges from extremely dry like the BC interior to humid like the Vancouver Fraser Valley. Most days are pleasant but depending on where you are it could snow or rain. He also learned that every home, even the most modest ones have central heat and air conditioning. The weather in Japan varies as much as it does here. You can go snow skiing or water skiing depending on where you are.

The first trip to the Yamaha Hamamatsu Factory open our eyes that Yamaha was the best pianos in the world, the second trip reinforced our belief that the finest pianos in the world are made in Japan and guess what, they stay there. The best of the best pianos are not exported out of the country, or not at least when they're new. Interesting note: When you want to buy a new piano in Japan you go directly to the factory or Yamaha Company owned store. You can play dozens of Yamaha pianos in specially designed listening rooms. You can pick the best sounding and playing one and then have it delivered to your home. This is how the finest Yamaha pianos end up staying in Japan. Privately owned, well maintained, hand picked instruments.
Piano seasoning for Canada
All Japanese Yamaha pianos are made the same, "the best". If you take a moisture meter and compare pianos, and we did during our Yamaha Japan Factory training, they're all identical and Yamaha is very proud of the best quality consistency. The climate here in Japan is the same as it is in North America.
Other companies such as Steinway, Bosendorfer, and Fazioli also have only one standard as well. They also all have factory Restoration Centers
That is why Toews Music is now shopping in Japan, for the very best privately owned, well maintained, hand picked instruments. We have the pianos refurbished at a special Hamamatsu Factory that specializes in Yamaha pianos using retired Yamaha piano staff. We then bring home to Canada the cream of the crop when it comes to pre-owned Yamaha Pianos.
