Scrapbooking Memories

To ensure success, be sure to read all instructions before beginning your projects.

Scrapbooking certainly seems to top the charts of favorite hobbies these days. Did you know that your Janome embroidery machine makes a great scrapbooking accessory? Embroidered, stitched and quilted accents are picture perfect dimensional details on the flat scrapbook page.

Janome Supplies Required
  • Memory Craft 10001, 10000, 9500, 300E (embroidery only)
  • PC Design Card #1002
  • Clothsetter 10000
  • Large Hoop "B"
  • Standard Hoop "A"
  • Embroidery foot "P"
  • Even Feed foot
  • Quilt Guide
  • Satin Stitch foot "F"
  • Janome Embroidery thread
  • Janome Bobbin thread
  • Blue Tip needle 75.11

Fabric and Notions Required
  • 1 yd. cotton fabric
  • 3/8 yd. batting
  • Tearaway stabilizer
  • Cutaway stabilizer (medium-heavy weight)
  • Two 12" squares heavy cardboard
  • Two 11" squares lightweight cardboard
  • Assorted colours of 12" x 12" card stock
  • Assorted colours handmade paper
  • Assorted colours Mulberry paper
  • Assorted ribbons and trims
  • All purpose thread
  • Transparent thread
  • 1/8" paper punch
  • Craft knife
  • Glue stick
  • Glue gun
  • Temporary spray adhesive

Cover
  1. Cut two 15" x 15" squares from the cotton fabric for the book cover.
  2. Adhere one layer of tearaway stabilizer to the wrong side of one cotton square with temporary spray adhesive.
  3. Cut two 13" x 13" squares from the cotton for the cover lining.
  4. Cut two 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" squares from the batting.
  5. Place the stabilized fabric in the Large Hoop "B", using the Clothsetter for perfect placement.
  6. Set up the Memory Craft for Professional-Style Embroidery.
  7. Insert PC Design Card #1002 (Heirloom Collection) in the machine.
  8. Press the Embroidery Mode key,
  9. Press the Edit tab.
  10. Press the PC Card tab. Select design #16.
  11. Press the Monogram tab. Select Script front in size Medium (M).
  12. Type "2004". Press OK.
  13. Press the Arc key. Press the Downward Arrow key twice. Press the Outward Double Arrow key twice.
  14. Position the design above design #16.
  15. Press the Monogram tab.
  16. Type "Springtime". Press OK.
  17. Position below design #16.
  18. Press the Monogram tab.
  19. Type "Memories". Press OK.
  20. Position on the bottom of the screen.
  21. Save the layout to the Built-in memory or an ATA PC Card.
  22. Embroider the design.
  23. Adhere the batting to the wrong side of the book front with temporary spray adhesive.
  24. Set up the Memory Craft for Ordinary sewing.
  25. Attach theh Even Feed foot and Quilt Guide. Set the guide 1" from the needle.
  26. MC10001 and MC10000 owners, select the New Sculpture stitch #72. MC9500 owners select Sculpture stitch #36.
  27. Thread the needle with transparent thread and bobbin with all purpose thread.
  28. Quilt the book front in a 1" grid pattern. If desired, quilt the book in the same manner.
  29. Wrap the raw edges of the embroidered front square around one heavy cardboard square. Adhere with a glue gun.
  30. Repeat for the back cover piece.
  31. Wrap the raw edges of one 13" lining square around one light cardboard square. Adhere with a glue gun.
  32. Glue the lining squares to the inside of the book covers so that all the raw edges are covered.
  33. Cut two holes through all the layers, 3" from the top and bottom and 1" from theleft edge, using a hammer and eyelet cutter.


General Note on Page Construction
  1. Always use a separate needle for embroidery. Be sure to replace with a new needle when sewing fabric.
  2. Adhere cutaway stabilizer to the back of the paper with temporary spray adhesive. The stabilizer should be cut larger than the hoop.
  3. When the embroidery is complete, trim the stabilizer close to the stitching.
  4. Tear or cut the embroidered paper to size.
  5. Glue or stitch the embroidered paper to the card stock.
  6. If stitching paper, do not select satin stitches or decorative stitches that penetrate the same hole more than two times. If possible, increase the stitch length.
  7. Always test the suitability of the built-in decorative stitches on scraps of paper.

Page 1
  1. Set up the Memory Craft for Professional-Style Embroidery.
  2. Embroider design #5 on a piece of white handmade paper.
  3. Embroider design #20 on another piece of white handmade paper.
  4. Cut out centre area of each paper, using a craft knife.
  5. Glue a photograph to the back of the embroidered frame.
  6. Select colour card stock for page.
  7. Punch 1/8" holes, 1/4" from the page edge around all four sides.
  8. Thread a large eyed needle with 6 yards of 1/8" ribbon.
  9. Wrap the edges of the page with ribbon.
  10. Punch holes through the embroidered frames and the page with an eyelet punch.
  11. Use brads to fasten teh frames to the page.

Page 2

  1. Embroider design #12 on white Mulberry paper.
    Note: Use the design templates to determine positioning. Use the Clothsetter to position paper in the hoop.
  2. Cut an appropriately sized opening for your selected photograph with a craft knife.
  3. Select colour card stock for page.
  4. Glue the photograph and embroidered paper to the page.
  5. Select Straight stitch #1. Adjust the length to 4.0.
  6. Sew rickrack around the picture and the edges of the Mulberry paper.

Page 3

  1. Embroider design #9 on handmade paper.
  2. Cut out the centre area for your selected photograph.
  3. Glue the photograph to the back of the embroidered frame.
  4. Tear one 4" x 7" rectangle from handmade paper.
  5. Tear one 5" x 7" rectangle from handmade paper. use a complementary colour.
  6. Glue the rectangles to a piece of selected card stock paper.
  7. MC10001 and MC10000 owners, select the Decorative stitch #56. MC9500 owners select stitch #43 or $44.
  8. Sew a frame 1" from the edges of the page.
  9. Sew a frame 3/8" from the edges of the handmade papers.
    Hint: To make corners, set the needle to end in the Down position. Start sewing. When the needle is at the stopped point for the corner, touch the reverse button. The machine will lock off at the point. Use the knee lift to raise the presser foot and rotate the page 90 degrees. Lower the presser foot and start sewing , the stitch will start at the beginning of the design.
  10. Punch two holes in the page, pull 1/8" ribbon through the holes and add a charm.

Page 4

  1. Embroider design #14 on handmade paper.
  2. Tear the embroidered paper into a 6" square.
  3. Cut two 6" squares of complementary colours from the Mulberry paper.
  4. MC10001 and MC10000 owners, select the Decorative stitch #189. MC9500 owners select stitch #81.
  5. Sew the squares to the page.
  6. Add photographs as desired.

Page 5
  1. Embroider design #15 in lower right portion of a piece of Mulberry paper.
  2. Mark the photograph openings on the Mulberry paper.
  3. Place a layer of cutaway stabilizer behind the paper.
  4. Select a Zigzag stitch. Adjust the length to 2.5.
  5. Sew a frame following the lines.
  6. Use a scraft knife to cut out the photograph openings.
  7. Trim away the excess stabilizer.
  8. Glue the photographs and paper to the select card stock page.
  9. Sew 1" wide ribbon to frame the entire page.

Page 6

  1. Embroider design #10 on handmade paper.
  2. Cut the embroidered paper into a 5" x 7" piece.
  3. Glue an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of handmade paper to teh selected card stock page.
  4. Glue the embroidered paper into position.
  5. Topstitch the large paper with a contrasting colour of thread.
  6. Frame the embroidered paper with ribbon.
  7. Add photographs as desired.

Finishing
When all the pages have been completed, punch holes in the same position
as the covers.. Thread 18" of ribbon through each hole and tie in a bow. To view the pages, simply untie the bows and open the book.
